    Save the painted house

This is the original website from the campaign during March 2009 to Save The Painted House from repossession. This site was set up by friends of the artist Steve Williams after he was made redundant at the start of the recession whilst in arrears on his mortgage and facing a court date in 16 days time. Over the previous few years working as a forklift truck driver in Stoke-on-Trent, Steve originally painted the walls of his house just as a hobby in his free time. The murals were inspired by many sources and include direct tributes to the work of others merged with imagery from Steve's imagination. This campaign aimed to show the world the walls of Steve's house for the first time and fortunately we were also able to delay and prevent its imminent repossession with the help that Steve found.

As of October 2012, Steve is still living in the Painted House. He adds a little bit now and then to the wall murals and plans to develop a new mural upstairs though he has now moved mainly on to painting canvases. Steve's canvas paintings have been included in art exhibitions several times over the last few years.
